Most riders when they need to replace tires on their rides, probably take them into their local dealer or shop and get them replaced with those OEM Dunlops. That's what I've done the last 3 years. I only got a around 10,000 to 12,000 miles on my rear tire. This last year my buddy Tom got the Metzeler Marathons put on his Road King. He all but raved about them, so I decided to check them out.
I have been riding for about a week with them and have to say, they make a huge difference. When I went to pickup it Fatboy from Battlefield Harley, I leaned to take the bike around the corner in the parking lot and Holy Shit. She tipped pike I was on a sport bike.
The whole ride home I felt that the ride was more responsive and actually made it 'feel' lighter. I rode my 65 mile commute into work that next Teusday in wet and drizzly conditions and felt comfortable with how the tires held on wet asphalt. At one point I screwed up coming around a lane and cracking it to get around the long line of cars at a light, I inadvertently down shifted instead of upshifting. The rear wheel squirreled out, caught her traction, righted herself and I blasted ahead (we've all done that right?). I just have to say that I'm never going back to those old Dunlops again.
Here is a pic of the front tire. Tread is deeper than the Dunlops so hopefully these will last me more than one riding season on the rears.
